Note: We have now established that AZTEC analyse code 401 A will successfully analyse a number of brands/varieties of 416 Barrett cases without timing out. This applies to cases which are not quite so heavy in the neck/shoulder region. If the four digit annealing code generated after sacrificing starts with 3 (e.g. 3246, 3318 etc) then the code is valid, and can be used for annealing. If not, the instructions below apply. Requires software update October 2021 to operate. The 416 Barrett is a unique case. We have only received one batch of samples, and they have very heavy/thick neck and shoulder walls. They are original Barrett head stamped. The sample neck walls ranged from 0.022" to 0.024" with an average of 0.023". They take much more power to anneal than even the heaviest 50 BMG cases. We can achieve a very consistent anneal, but not with even our highest Standard program. Likewise, our AZTEC Analyse mode times out before the correct datum is reached. Therefore, we have established a custom setting to anneal 416 Barrett. Firstly, select AZTEC Run mode, and then enter code 4093. On our samples that gave a perfect anneal. As with most cartridges, we expect there will be lot to lot variations. We suggest users check their cases for neck wall thickness first. If they match our samples, then 4093 will be accurate. We are more than happy to test and confirm calibration for any samples customers choose to send us, in particular if neck turned. We have now tested the latest 416 Barrett/RUAG brass. Un-turned, the necks average 0.020", and AZTEC Run mode code 4088 is correct. Turned to 0.019", AZTEC Run mode code 4080 is correct.

Note: We have now established that AZTEC analyse code 401 A will successfully analyse a number of brands/varieties of 416 Barrett cases without timing out. This applies to cases which are not quite so heavy in the neck/shoulder region. If the four digit annealing code generated after sacrificing starts with 3 (e.g. 3246, 3318 etc) then the code is valid, and can be used for annealing. If not, the instructions below apply. Requires software update October 2021 to operate. The 416 Barrett is a unique case. We have only received one batch of samples, and they have very heavy/thick neck and shoulder walls. They are original Barrett head stamped. The sample neck walls ranged from 0.022" to 0.024" with an average of 0.023". They take much more power to anneal than even the heaviest 50 BMG cases. We can achieve a very consistent anneal, but not with even our highest Standard program. Likewise, our AZTEC Analyse mode times out before the correct datum is reached. Therefore, we have established a custom setting to anneal 416 Barrett. Firstly, select AZTEC Run mode, and then enter code 4093. On our samples that gave a perfect anneal. As with most cartridges, we expect there will be lot to lot variations. We suggest users check their cases for neck wall thickness first. If they match our samples, then 4093 will be accurate. We are more than happy to test and confirm calibration for any samples customers choose to send us, in particular if neck turned. We have now tested the latest 416 Barrett/RUAG brass. Un-turned, the necks average 0.020", and AZTEC Run mode code 4088 is correct. Turned to 0.019", AZTEC Run mode code 4080 is correct.
